What I did on my autumnal vacation

View of Bennington, Vt. from above

1. Visited Bennington College, Southern Vermont College and Williams College. You can take the girl away from her viewbooks, but you can't take her away from beautiful liberal arts colleges.

2. Bought organic brussel sprouts at the Walloomsac Farmer's Market.

3. Stayed in the wonderful guest apartment at The Studio Club Artworks in Pownal, Vt.

4. Ate a lot of apples and Cabot cheddar cheese.

5. Hiked. See above.

6. Froze our butts off. We don't know from cold out west.

7. Toured and fell in love with Bennington Potters.

8. Bought maple syrup right off the farm. And deluged our French toast with it.

9. Knit. See yesterday's post.

10. Attended cousin Stephanie's gorgeous wedding at Bridgewaters at the South Street Seaport in Manhattan.

11. Found the best dinner deal on the island: Table Tales. Three words: Maple creme brulee. Like owner Grace says, "here, we're all about the food."

12. Saw Hair. Full of energy. Professional. Fun. But for the money...plays offer more riches on Broadway.

13. Speaking of the Great White Way, saw Frank Rich, the Butcher of Broadway himself at the Cuban-Chinese eatery La Caridad 78.

14. Spied John Slattery and Matt Damon filiming The Adjustment Bureau in lower downtown.

15. Went to the Kandinsky exhibit at the Guggenheim. Explosive!

16. Took neice Rebecca (and, who are we kidding, myself) to Topshop.

17. Visited the World Trade Center Memorial-in-progress. Especially moving for cousin Joel who got home by walking across the Brooklyn Bridge that day.

18. Nake-id IT discovered Moishe's Kosher Bakery. Had a religious experience with a cheese danish.

19. Left NYC with kasha and potato knishes and a heart full of love for that great city.
